Is a hat a frivolous accessory or a necessity. Looking into its history becomes apparent that it has been both. Headwear for women began during the middle age when the church decreed that their must be cover. During the 18th century, milliners took the hat making art out of home and established the millenary profession. Today a "milliner" defines a person associate with the profession of hat making .In the 18th century however, a milliner was more of a stylist. The term of "milliner" comes from the Italian city of Milan wherein 1700's the finest hat form were made. Many styles of headgear have been popular trough history and worn for different functions and events. They can be part of uniforms or worn to indicate a social status. Styles include the top hat , hats worn as part of military uniforms, cowboy hat, and cocktail hat.
